A new FCA Initiative: The Agassiz Road Duck House

On Agassiz Road , the parkway that links the East and West Fenway , sits a 111-year-old building known as the Duck House.  This City-owned building, which has been boarded up and out of use for 22 years, has the potential to serve as a community asset.

On May 12, FCA hosted a meeting at the Duck House that included a visit of the interior and a discussion with representation from the following parties: Fenway Civic Association, City of Boston Parks Department, Emerald Necklace Conservancy, Copley Group, and City Councilor Michael Ross.  It was determined that these parties are open to working together to explore opportunities for restoring and using the building.  Once more information about the building is collected, the community would be involved in determining potential uses.  One idea is for the building to provide a small bicycle rental shop, snack shop, and public bathrooms.

FCA is pleased to have City Councilor Michael Ross lending his support for restoring the Duck House so it can be used to benefit the community.  We hope to work with the City of Boston and others to transform into a community asset for the enjoyment of park users and area residents.

May 12, 2008 – FCA holds initial meeting at Duck House site and receives building assessment from City of Boston . It is expected that a significant amount of funds (several hundred thousand dollars) would need to be raised in order to fund the planning and restoration of the Duck House.

July 16, 2008 - FCA and others meet with Historic Boston to discuss possible next steps.

Stay tuned for further information.
